Back to School 2022

Welcome Back! 

We are excited to welcome you to the 2022 - 2023 school year. We hope everyone had a relaxing and restful summer vacation with family, friends, and loved ones. It's going to be a great year to be a Bulldog and we are thrilled that your child will be learning with us!  The school floors got refreshed over the summer and our custodians have been hard at work to ensure the school is ready for us next week.  Our staff are already in, planning and setting up for the year.  And our office staff have also been busy ordering supplies and registering new students.

Below you will find information to assist you with getting ready for the first day of school. 

Student Placement:  Classroom placement is a responsibly we take very seriously as we balance the academic and social needs of our students. They are designed considering a multitude of complex factors to provide equitable opportunities for all Howe students at each grade level. We balance the desire for your child to be in a class with their friends with the potential for new friends in different classes. If your child is not sure of their placement, we ask parents to encourage their children to give it time as it can take a few weeks to acclimate to a new grade, new peers and new classrooms. At the same time, we will ALL work hard to create positive experiences for ALL students. 

School Supplies - you can find the school supply information online. Please do not bring school supplies to school on the first day - wait for your teacher to say, “bring your supplies.”  

PE Strip – All students require proper attire for PE, consisting of a t-shirt, shorts or leggings, and non-marking runners. You can order PE strip through School Cash Online, beginning next week.

Transportation – Busing is organized by the district, not the school. Information for busing can be found on the district website. Please ensure your child knows their route, pick up times and bus number.   

School Cash Online - Our teachers and office staff will no longer be accepting cash from students for school fees, athletics fees, PE strip, yearbooks, field trips or at Barky's canteen. We encourage all families to use School Cash Online for all payments made to the school.  

School Communication – Our school website (howemiddle.abbyschools.ca) is updated regularly. You can also receive updates using the AbbySchools mobile app for iOS or Android.  Please follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

First Day of School 

The first day of school is a partial day on Tuesday, September 6th. Pod lists for grade 6, 7 and 8 will be posted in the gym on Tuesday morning. 

We will see our Grade 7 & 8 students attend from 8:20 to 9:50 and our Grade 6 students attend from 10:15 to 11:45

Grade 7/8 students will meet their teachers in the gym at 8:20.
Grade 6 students will meet their teachers in the gym at 10:15.
Students are not required to bring anything with them on this day.  They may want to bring a snack and a water bottle.

The first week of school will be our 'Welcome Week' with our students participating in welcome activities with their pod teachers. As our enrolment often fluctuates over the summer, we hope to have our final pod lists completed by Monday, September 12th.  Online lunch orders will not be available during the first week of school.
