Announcement:
Update on COVID-19 Measures
Dear Colleen & Gordie Howe families,
Last week, our Superintendent shared an updated that highlighted Dr. Bonnie Henry’s announced planned changes to public health orders over the coming days and weeks, focusing on resuming more types of activities and events. We understand that there are varying levels of comfort as we begin to move towards the next stage in our provincial Restart Plan, but ultimately this is exciting news for our community and serves as a signal of better days ahead. It is with this email that we wanted to provide you with updates related to our school operations.
Guidelines for K-12 Setting
While our school begins to return to the operational parameters from this past fall, several health a safety measures will remain in place until further notice. These include:
- Conducting Daily Health Checks;
- Mask wearing in accordance with the Provincial Health Officer Order for all K-12 students and staff;
- Regular hand hygiene;
- Maintaining physical distancing where possible; and
- Staying home when you are sick.
At our school we will also implement these changes:
- Student and staff school gatherings will be in person
- Spectators will be permitted at sport events (limited capacity) and will be required to complete the daily health check, wear a mask, and stay home if they have COVID symptoms
- Student will need to bring gym strip and will be able to change in the changerooms
- Grade zones at nut break and lunch are no longer required
This information has also been added to our school website for families.
Rapid Antigen Tests
The Ministry of Education has also shipped rapid antigen tests to our school for distribution to students. Each student will receive one box, which includes five individual tests. Guidance for parents on how to use the tests is available. We have received our school’s test allotment and each student will be bringing a box home with them (either on February 24th or 25th).
Next Steps
The safety and well-being of our students, families, and staff remains our highest priority.
Thank you for your continued support throughout this year.
Sincerely,
Christine Abbot Elizabeth Smoes
