Bulldog Bulletin - September
Welcome Back!!! Feels like just yesterday we were wishing our Bulldogs a wonderful summer and here we are ready to begin another school year! Hopefully everyone was able to have an enjoyable summer with family and friends. It is always a great time to relax and recharge! We are thrilled to see our returning Bulldogs and welcome our newest students to Howe Middle.
Staff are busy this week getting everything ready for the first day of school. Below is the information you need to start things off in a successful way! Enjoy the last week of summer!
GENERAL INFORMATION
Summer Office Hours: The school office will be open August 25th to August 29th from 8:30am - 2:30pm. If you need any in-person assistance, you can come to the school during these days/times to speak with office staff.
Parent Handbook: As we start a new school year, it's a great time to remind parents of the expectations for students and families here at C & G Howe Middle School. If you click here, you can access our 2025-2026 Howe Parent Information Booklet. There is a lot of information shared in this document, so please take a moment to read through it.
School Supplies: You can click here to access the school supply list for the upcoming year. Once students are placed into their permanent classes, individual teachers may require additional supplies.
School Cash Online: The Abbotsford School District uses School Cash Online for all payments as well as field trip permission forms. If you have already set up an account at our school or another in the district you are ready to go. If you need to register, please click here and follow the steps to make an account. We will be sending out information shortly regarding school fees and walking field trip permissions.
Communication With Families: It is important to us that we are able to have open communication with our community to share information from the school, celebrate what is happening at C & G Howe Middle School each day as well as discuss student progress. First of all, our doors are always open whether in person or electronically. Please feel free to reach out to staff and/or administration if you have anything you wish to discuss.
Throughout the year, we will use the following platforms to share information with the community and celebrate our school:
-
School Messenger: This is our main format for sharing information including our weekly Bulldog Bulletin newsletter which comes out on Sundays. School messenger allows us to email the community. We can also use it to call you with an automated message in emergency situations.
-
C & G Howe Middle Website: We work to update our website on a regular basis throughout the year. It is a great place to get general information about the school, check out our weekly Bulldog Bulletin Newsletter as well as check out our school calendar.
-
Social Media: C & G Howe Middle School has a very active social media profile where we are able to send reminders to our community and more importantly, share the amazing learning that occurs here everyday! Please be sure to check out our Instagram (@howemiddle.bulldogs) accounts
Bell Schedule: Please click here to see our bell schedule for the 2025 - 2026 school year. There are no changes from last year.
Day 1 - Day 2 Schedule: This year, we will be changing our Day 1 - Day 2 schedule to make things easier and more consistent for staff and students. Every Monday and Wednesday will now be a Day 1 schedule. Every Tuesday and Thursday will now be a Day 2 schedule. Fridays will alternate between Day 1 and Day 2.
School Calendar: C & G Howe Middle is a very busy place. Families are encouraged to click here to access our school calendar. While we share the upcoming week in our Bulldog Bulletin newsletter, this will allow families to look ahead to the rest of the school year.
C & G Howe Middle Staff: We are excited to have most of our last year staff be returning this school year! Our teachers and support staff are so passionate and dedicated to supporting our students and helping them be successful! If you click here, you can see the most updated staff list for our school.
Attendance: Throughout the year and particularly during the first week, it is imperative that we have accurate attendance for all our students. If your child is going to be away, please use the School Messenger App or Safe Arrival Website to mark your child away. You can register if you click here. You can also call 1-844-487-3701 to report an absence using the automated phone system. These options are available 24 hours/day, 7 days a week. Future absences can be reported at any time.
Pick-Up/Drop Off: As we start the school year, it is a great time to remind families that the front of the school is for pick up and drop off only. Please do not park here or drive in the area of the cones. The best place to meet your child if you are driving is the MRC parking lot or the one down by the Bulldog field. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Code of Conduct/Fair Notice Letters: Each year the district shares with families information on its code of conduct and Fair Notice policy. You can click here to access the Code of Conduct and click here for the Fair Notice Policy
PAC Fundraiser: To start off our year, we will be running a PAC fundraiser where parents can donate an amount they are comfortable with through School Cash Online. This will help reduce the number of fundraisers we need to do throughout the school year while still allowing us to create memorable learning experiences for students. Please watch for this to come out during the first couple weeks of school.
THE FIRST WEEK
Schedule For The First Day: The schedule for the first day of school (Tuesday September 2nd) is as follows:
-
8:30 - 11:00 > Grade 6s attend for orientation activities with WEB leaders. They will be provided a snack during this time and do not require any supplies
-
12:30 - 1:30 > Grade 7s and 8s attend during this time. As we are still finalizing enrolment numbers, grade groupings/temporary class lists will be posted on the morning of Tuesday September 2nd after 11:00am. This will direct students on which class to report to at 12:30
The Rest Of The Week: For the remainder of the first week, students attend from 8:27 - 2:20. Grade 7s and 8s will return to the homerooms they attended on the first day for the rest of the week and beyond. Our Grade 6s will return to the gym to start the day Wednesday morning where their WEB leaders will take them to their homerooms. They will remain there for the week and beyond.
Please note that much thought and discussion goes into class placement. Staff work extremely hard in the Spring to create balanced classes that meet contractual requirements and learning needs of students. To that end, we do not move students for the first 6 weeks of the school year to allow relationships to form.
PAC NEWS
PAC Executive: We are so grateful for the people who have joined our PAC Executive. Their hard work has been a benefit to the students of Howe Middle. You can click here to see who they are. We also have some openings so if you are interested, please connect with Mr Davids (shawn.davids@abbyschools.ca)
PAC Participation: A reminder to all our families, that each of you is a active member of our Parent Advisory Council. Your input into the success of C & G Howe Middle School is important. We invite you to join us at our PAC meetings once a month to discuss school initiatives, fund-raising and the best ways to support our students. We will share the in an upcoming Bulldog Bulletin.
