Bulldogs Bulletin: September 21, 2026
Hopefully everyone had a restful weekend! Was nice having that sunshine stick around through September, especially if you like spending time outside. We have a busy week ahead so here is all the information you need.
NEW INFORMATION
Non-Instructional Day #1: This Friday is a Professional Development Day for staff so there will be no school for students. Staff will be participating in activities connected to the Abbotsford School District Truth and Reconciliation journey.
Staffing Update: Over the past couple of weeks, we have been working towards completing our staffing for the school year. We are excited to announce the following:
- We are sad to share that Michelle Doerkson has accepted a head custodian position at Asia Sumas and will be leaving us! We wish her all the best in this exciting new opportunity.
- We are excited to officially welcome Jasmeen Brar to our Bulldog Family! She has been filling in for Ms Chapman's maternity leave in September and will be working on Monday and Wednesday once Ms Chapman comes back.
- We're happy to be keeping Ramanpreet Kaur as a continuing EA. She has been here since the beginning of the year in a UFN.
- Welcome back Therasa Mondhe who will be in for Mrs Chowdhry's maternity leave starting in October until Spring Break when Ms McDonald will be back.
Meet The Teacher Night: This Thursday is our Meet the Teacher Night at Colleen and Gordie Howe Middle School from 5:00 - 6:00. It will be an "Open House" style, so it is a great chance to come and meet your child's teachers and get information about the school year!
Chocolate Fundraiser Assembly: This Tuesday we will be having our kick-off assembly for our annual chocolate fundraiser. Students will learn about the prizes they can win for selling chocolates to family and friends over the next couple weeks. These will come home with students starting on Wednesday.
Abbotsford Book of the Year: Gordie Howe and all other SD34 middle schools are participating in ABOY - Abbotsford Book of the Year. For the school year, students read at least half of the titles by the end of May 2027, and then vote for their #1 favourite. These titles are available at the public library and our school library. Some titles are available on Libby and Sora. You can CLICK HERE for more information.
Indigo Adopt a School Fundraiser: Sevenoaks' COLES store is continuing to fundraise for our LLC. They will be fundraising for us until October 4th, 2026. Their goal is to raise $1,000. So far, they are at the halfway point! Please send this link (CLICK HERE) to family and friends that cannot make it to the store to donate.
INFORMATION FROM LAST WEEK
Music Programs: As we start our first full week, our music programs will be up and running. We encourage students to find a way to connect with our many different options. Below is the schedule, but if you have any questions, please contact Ms Hunt ([email protected]).
E-Scooters: The Abbotsford Police Department is reminding families that electric kick scooters (e-scooters) are not permitted on public roads, sidewalks, pathways, or parks anywhere in Abbotsford. Their use is only allowed on private property because Abbotsford is not part of B.C.’s Electric Kick Scooter Pilot Project. Riding an e-scooter in a public space may result in a $109 fine. In support of this, students will not be permitted to have e-scooters on school property.
Breakfast and Lunch Programs: A reminder to families that Howe middle offers both a breakfast and lunch program for those students in need.
- Breakfast Club: All students are welcome to join us for Breakfast Club in the Foods room every morning starting at 8:00am. Please enter through the door closest to the Foods room (near Maclure Rd).
- Lunch Program: Our lunch program is run out of Barkey's and requires families to complete a form in order to qualify. Last week and this week, Ms Sepke will be handing out the form to students who may be in need of daily lunch. Please be sure to complete this and return it to Ms Sepke directly.
Noon Hour Supervisors Wanted: We are looking for parents interested in working at Howe Middle School as a noon hour supervisor for one hour a day. The times for this position are 11:20 - 12:20. If you are interested, please reach out to Ms Myers ([email protected]).
Concession Worker Wanted: We are also looking for a concession worker to run our Barkey's Canteen. You can CLICK HERE for the job description and reach out to Mr Davids ([email protected]) if you have any questions or are interested.
PAC NEWS
Little Coupon Book Fundraiser: The PAC is currently running its first fundraiser ... Little Coupon Books. These provide awesome deals for families at a variety of local establishments while raising money for the school district. They are available for $15 each through School Cash Online and sales end October 2nd.
You Are The PAC: A reminder to all our families that having a student at Colleen and Gordie Howe Middle School means you are already part of our PAC! We will be sharing the schedule for meetings shortly so please be on the lookout and make plans to attend.
