Bulldog Bulletin - September 28th
Happy Sunday! Hope you are all enjoying your weekend. It's a strange week ahead with a day off on Wednesday for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation but still lots going on. Here is what you need to know.
NEW INFORMATION
Staffing Update: We are excited to welcome Ms Sherice Lomong to our Bulldog Family. She will be here as an EA on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Orange Shirt Day: This Tuesday, the Colleen and Gordie Howe Middle School community will be wearing orange as a symbol of remembrance for the survivors of Indigenous Residential Schools and those who never made it home to their families and communities. Students will participate in a variety of activities to learn more about this important topic and to remind us all that EVERY CHILD MATTERS. Families can get more information if you CLICK HERE.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: A reminder that this Wednesday, September 30th is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. There is no school for students and staff.
Chocolate Bar Fundraiser: Last week, students were given a case of chocolate almonds to sell to family and friends. There are many incentive prizes for students who sell a lot so please help your child with this important fundraiser. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mr Murphy ([email protected])
INFORMATION FROM LAST WEEK
Staffing Update: Over the past couple of weeks, we have been working towards completing our staffing for the school year. We are excited to announce the following:
- We are sad to share that Michelle Doerkson has accepted a head custodian position at Asia Sumas and will be leaving us! We wish her all the best in this exciting new opportunity.
- We are excited to officially welcome Jasmeen Brar to our Bulldog Family! She has been filling in for Ms Chapman's maternity leave in September and will be working on Monday and Wednesday once Ms Chapman comes back.
- We're happy to be keeping Ramanpreet Kaur as a continuing EA. She has been here since the beginning of the year in a UFN.
- Welcome back Therasa Mondhe who will be in for Mrs Chowdhry's maternity leave starting in October until Spring Break when Ms McDonald will be back.
Abbotsford Book of the Year: Gordie Howe and all other SD34 middle schools are participating in ABOY - Abbotsford Book of the Year. For the school year, students read at least half of the titles by the end of May 2027, and then vote for their #1 favourite. These titles are available at the public library and our school library. Some titles are available on Libby and Sora. You can CLICK HERE for more information.
Indigo Adopt a School Fundraiser: Sevenoaks' COLES store is continuing to fundraise for our LLC. They will be fundraising for us until October 4th, 2026. Their goal is to raise $1,000. So far, they are at the halfway point! Please send this link (CLICK HERE) to family and friends that cannot make it to the store to donate.
PAC NEWS
Little Coupon Book Fundraiser: The PAC is currently running its first fundraiser ... Little Coupon Books. These provide awesome deals for families at a variety of local establishments while raising money for the school district. They are available for $15 each through School Cash Online and sales end October 2nd.
You Are The PAC: A reminder to all our families that having a student at Colleen and Gordie Howe Middle School means you are already part of our PAC! We will be sharing the schedule for meetings shortly so please be on the lookout and make plans to attend.
